The holiday weekend kicked off with danger in Mount Vernon and attempted robbery, gunfire, and now at least one person in custody. News Twelve's Melanie Palmer has the latest on what happened. Once we heard gunshots, you know, the best thing is to just duck duck, take cover. A shocking wake up call for Issa Joseph Friday. He was inside his home on Pearl Street in Mount Vernon when suddenly my family just woke up to like gunshots about around 6. It sounded like a firework. We were pretty scared. I pretty much just waited till like 11 o'clock and then we went downstairs to see like the aftermath, and that's when we discovered a bullet went through the window before. That gunfire came the attempted robbery just a couple blocks away. This is security footage. It happened shortly after 5 in the morning at this gas station on Mount Vernon Avenue. Officials say the two suspects took off. NYPD already had a unit that was doing some investigations in the area, and so they responded. The suspects who fled on foot. Fired shots at NYPD. Officials with NYPD say one officer fired back. Authorities tell us no one was seriously hurt. I seen the police. I see helicopters. I've seen everything, and it was just, it's scary, but the entire situation sparked a massive investigation as police searched for the suspects. One person of interest was taken into custody Friday evening, and there's no word right now on the suspect's ages, names, or possible charges they're facing. While police continue to investigate, people who live around here say they are shaken up. As soon as we woke up, we prayed about it, me and my little brother. Issa Joseph is just relieved. His family is OK. Sometimes we sleep on the couch where like that happens and like if someone was down there like, you know, God forbid they got shot, I would have been. Really tragic, really tragic. With new details about a violent gas station robbery in Mount Vernon, federal prosecutors say 2 eight-year-old Jamay Robertson pulled a gun on a clerk on Mount Vernon Avenue Friday morning. They say he stole cash in the victim's wallet before opening fire on police officers in the Bronx. Investigators say Robertson was later seen ditching the gun and some of his clothes, and they say he was spotted on video in multiple locations before his arrest. Police are still looking for a second suspect.

One suspect now faces federal charges after an armed robbery and a shooting early Friday morning. News Twelve's Lauren Del Valle has the latest. I got a little scared because I never saw robbery here. Rogeria Santana has worked for almost a decade on Mount Vernon Avenue. Her business is down the street from 30 Mount Vernon Avenue, where Mount Vernon police say an armed robbery occurred at a gas station around 5:30 a.m. The two suspects are then said to have fled the scene. NYPD were provided with suspect descriptions and were alerted to the situation due to its proximity to. The Bronx. Shortly after NYPD officers around 29 Pearl Street observed individuals matching the descriptions. When approached, the suspects allegedly fired at officers. It was like 5:40 in the morning and I heard, um, I thought it was a firecracker. No, it was gunshots. It was a little scary, but I still I I feel safe on this neighborhood. Mount Vernon police. An officer returned fire and the suspects then fled on foot because of the incident's proximity to the Metro North New Haven line train tracks. The MTA was notified to shut down train service. One suspect has been charged federally with Hobbs Act robbery. The second remains at large. Mount Vernon police say the incident is still under investigation.
