A man was allegedly driving drunk when police say he struck and killed an e-bike rider during a Saturday morning hit-and-run in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
It happened just after 12:30 a.m. on Salt Point Turnpike.
Investigators say 25-year-old Joseph W. Marcinelli was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck when he hit the 35-year-old victim.
According to police, Marcinelli took off after the deadly incident. Officers were able to track him down and take him into custody.
Investigators say the e-bike rider was a resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, although their identity had not been released as of Saturday night.
Marcinelli now faces a slew of charges including first-degree vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident, driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated.
His exact blood alcohol level at the time of the crash was not immediately known.
Marcinelli was arraigned and remanded to the Duchess County Justice and Transition Center.
