A baby goat's bid for freedom led to an unusual police response at a Yonkers school last week.
Yonkers police say officers were called to the DiChiaro School on Bronxville Road Thursday afternoon after reports of a goat running loose on school grounds. Investigators say the young goat escaped from a neighboring yard through a damaged fence and wandered onto the school's playground.
Police say the four-legged fugitive then began chasing students around the playground as children cheered on officers trying to capture it.
Officers eventually surrounded the runaway goat and safely took it into custody. The animal was returned to its owner without injury.
The department's Emergency Service Unit also helped secure the damaged fence to prevent another escape.
After the excitement ended, officers gave students an impromptu demonstration of ESU trucks and equipment, turning the unusual call into a memorable afternoon.
No students, officers or goats were injured.
