Health experts say that although protein is a critical part of a person's diet, many people do not consume it the way they should.
Julia Zumpano, a registered dietitian with the Cleveland Clinic, says protein needs to be a part of every meal.
"Spreading out your protein intake leads to the best outcome when it comes to muscle building and sustaining muscle and utilizing that protein," she says.
Zumpano recommends people eat protein throughout the day in multiple meals and snacks.
She says the easiest way to achieve this is to plan ahead and purchase quick and easy options.
Zumpano adds that consuming a variety of proteins will also maximize one's nutrient intake because different sources give one different nutrients. In addition, eating one kind of protein, such as red meat, could lead to health problems.
"I can't emphasize enough, having a large variety of protein sources is really key, and...having them available to you, readily available, so you're able to easily meet your needs," she says.
