A former Rockland County corrections officer was sentenced to state prison Tuesday morning in Rockland County Court in New City.

Daniel Dworkin, of Valley Cottage, was sentenced to one to three years in state prison, a sentence previously promised by Judge Djinsad Desir and upheld by Judge David Ascher at this latest court proceeding.

During the sentencing hearing, Dworkin became emotional as he addressed the court and his family.

“I deeply regret that my own conduct fell short of the standards that I believe in,” Dworkin said. “I hurt my family too. And I’m very sorry. I failed them.”

Following the sentencing, Dworkin was handcuffed and taken into custody. One of his family members became visibly upset in the courtroom as the sentence was handed down.

Prosecutors said Dworkin pleaded guilty in September to child pornography charges.

Authorities found that over four months in 2024, he uploaded numerous images and videos depicting sexual performances by children under 17 years old to his Google Drive account.

In court, prosecutors also referenced a binder containing pornographic photographs that was found at the jail where Dworkin worked during a search warrant.

Dworkin’s attorney, Benjamin Greenwald, asked the court for a shorter sentence because of his client’s mental health struggles and prior service to the community.

“He took responsibility, and continues to take responsibility for his actions,” Greenwald said. Telling News 12's Diane Caruso outside of court that his client is, "a good person who made a mistake," and wishes his client had "an opportunity to rehabilitate outside of prison rather than prison."

The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office sought a longer sentence. In a statement, District Attorney Tom Walsh said, “Every time this material is viewed, children are victimized again and again. We must protect our children.”

In addition to his prison sentence, Dworkin will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release.
