A former Saugerties police officer has been sentenced to five years in prison for a sexual crime against a child, court records show.

Sydney Mills was also sentenced to 10 years of post-release supervision.

The 54-year-old pleaded guilty back in June.

Officials say Mills was an officer when the incident occurred in 2022.

An investigation began after the victim, who was 15 at the time, came forward to report the abuse.
