One of the tightest congressional races in the country is playing out in the Hudson Valley.
Republican Rep. Mike Lawler is fighting for a third term in New York's 17th Congressional District, and Democrat Cait Conley is trying to flip a seat that could help shape the balance of power in Washington, D.C.
The race is also becoming a proxy fight over two men who aren't even on the ballot - President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Rep. Lawler has linked Conley to Mamdani and the left wing of the Democratic Party, while Conley has been highly critical of the Trump administration and Lawler's support of the president’s agenda.
Israel is another sharp dividing line in the race.
"I do believe I can support the right of Israel to exist and the Israeli people and criticize the administration," said Conley.
Lawler has made rising antisemitism a central part of his campaign, blaming some of it on rhetoric coming from the political left.
"This is becoming more and more prevalent, and too many of my Democratic colleagues are OK with it," said Lawler.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. News 12 will have live results and complete coverage starting at 9 p.m. when the polls close.
