Neiman Marcus, one of the main anchor stores of The Westchester Mall in White Plains, is closing, according to the store's owner, Saks Global Enterprises LLC.
Saks Global Enterprises announced that 12 additional Saks Fifth Avenue stores and three Neiman Marcus locations will be closing.
The company, which recently filed for bankruptcy, explained that by closing the stores that are not performing well, it can focus on the most profitable, luxury locations.
Mayor Justin Brasch says the city was not informed.
"They're a merchant and we're sorry that they're closing, and that Saks is having difficulty. That being said, I'm quite optimistic. The city is growing fast and strong and people are moving here, businesses are growing. New people will move in, take the space, and we'll keep moving forward," said Brasch.
He added that the city will be as supportive as it can be for the company and workers impacted by the closure.
Two workers who spoke with News 12 say they were notified of the closure, but were not told when it would occur.
News 12 contacted Simon Property Group, which operates the mall, and is waiting to hear back.
The department store's closure is expected to be sometime in the next couple of months.
