An out‑of‑control car in White Plains went airborne and slammed into scaffolding near Buffalo Wild Wings on Tuesday afternoon.
Video posted by the White Plains Public Safety Department shows the SUV narrowly missing pedestrians on a walkway before flying through oncoming traffic on Mamaroneck Avenue.
Police said the crash happened around 4 p.m. at Main Street and Mamaroneck Avenue. They said the Acura MDX was heading east on Main Street when it veered right, struck an island and crossed into the northbound lanes.
The SUV then hit the scaffolding. The driver, an 80‑year‑old man, who police say appears to be from Long Island, was the only person in the vehicle and is in stable condition at a hospital.
News 12 spoke with the owner of RJT Motorist Services, John Halliday. His company was called out to tow the car at around 8 p.m. Halliday says it took about an hour.
"The scaffolding definitely added some complications to everything. You know, we wanted to make sure everything was safe, nothing came crashing down," said Halliday.
Crews have been out making repairs to the scaffolding.
Police are reviewing possible driver or mechanical error. No other injuries were reported.
The Buffalo Wild Wings is open for business.
