Dozens of firefighters participated in a parade in Carmel on Saturday to celebrate the 110th anniversary of the community's volunteer fire department.
"Today we're celebrating volunteerism, more specifically our 110th anniversary," said department president Matthew Lubera.
The volunteer department's parade strolled down along Seminary Hill Road.
"We have families that have been involved since the early 1900s and today we're just celebrating that with our 110th anniversary parade," Lubera said.
Organizers said about 30 other volunteer fire departments from around the state came out to help them celebrate the anniversary.
"We appreciate each other, we're a big family network, we go to their parades, they go to our parades, we take care of each other," said Ossining Firefighter Jaime Faiella.
Not only did the parade bring out support from their mutual aid partners, it also brought lots of people from the community.
"It's civic pride. I appreciate what they do," said resident Felicia Fisher.
Organizers also pushed for people to get involved with their respective fire departments.
"If you're able to, stop by your local firehouse and see if you can volunteer in any way," Lubera said.
