It was a wild scene in Port Chester Friday after a driver's brakes failed, causing him to crash into a utility pole.
Police say it happened around 9:30 a.m.
A utility-type pickup truck was heading east on Westchester Avenue when the brakes began to fail, according to police. Officers say the driver pulled the emergency brake and tried downshifting the vehicle, but that didn't work.
The driver hit the utility pole to avoid going into the intersection of North Main and Westchester Avenue, according to officers.
People working nearby are calling this driver brave.
"I heard a big boom...For a few seconds, the lights went out. I asked what happened. My brother, he just said, 'The brakes,'" said Luisito Yumbla, who works nearby.
Police say the 26-year-old driver from Queens had minor injuries.
