ALERTS: Flood watch 2 p.m. to late tonight, Heat Advisory until 8 p.m.
It is a day with a bit of potential double-trouble. Have the sunglasses, rain gear and a place of shelter to escape to in case heavy rain or thunderstorms move through your location today.
If you are not cautious, heat-related illness is a real possibility today with heat indices around 95 to 104 degrees.
On top of that, spotty, but high-impact tropical-like downpours and thunderstorms are likely. There can be a shower or downpour that develops any time this afternoon, but the better window for strong to severe thunderstorms is around 4 p.m. through 10 p.m. Flash flooding and damaging wind gusts are the primary threats today with any thunderstorms.
Daily shower and thunderstorm chances continue through the week, but no day is a complete washout. The heat does gradually subside after today with high temperatures in the low- to mid-80s starting tomorrow.
This more unsettled type of weather pattern will break for at least a few days early next week. That said, keep your outdoor plans each day through the weekend.
