There is no price you can put on mom. While you should be celebrating her everyday, many do so more formally on Mother's Day, and the pricing proves it. The National Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics expects Mother’s Day consumer spending to reach $34.1 billion this year.
Marshal Cohen, the Chief Retail Analyst at Circana, took News 12 through the pricing of popular presents for mom.
"Flowers are going up over last year," said Cohen. "[Expect] about $5 more for a bouquet of flowers."
According to Cohen, cookware and small appliances are also common ideas. He says some of those practical items average a $10 increase this year.
If the special woman in your life is more into experiences or a day out, you'll also notice a bigger bill attached to some of those activities.
"Spa days now average, in our area, $85 a day," said Cohen. "That's the new number, up from about $65 just a few years ago."
Brunch reservations are in-demand and more expensive. Cohen says restaurants are now running at about $10 more per person when it comes to a meal.
Fortunately, most moms don't want you to spend a fortune. Many News 12 spoke with say they value the sentiment over stuff and that the best present is always quality time spent with the ones they love the most.
