The Waller-Maple parking garage in White Plains will close Monday as construction begins on a long-planned improvement project, marking the third confirmed parking facility closure in the city.
The closure follows the shutdown of the privately owned parking garage at 50 Hale Ave., which suffered a partial structural collapse, and the Lexington-Grove West garage. Both facilities closed one year ago this month.
The Waller-Maple lot, located across Mamaroneck Avenue, serves customers and employees of numerous nearby businesses and restaurants.
City officials said the lot has been in need of upgrades for years and that the reconstruction project is intended to improve safety, accessibility and overall appearance.
"The lot has been in need of improvements for years, and the new lot will improve those needs while making the lot safer, more accessible and more attractive," city officials said in a statement.
When prolonged winter weather limits the ability to work, construction will pause, temporarily reopening the lot. If necessary, final work will resume in the spring.
News 12 reached out to city officials for additional details and was awaiting a response as of Sunday.
