A 101-year-old Yonkers woman was celebrated by generations of family members on Mother’s Day for a lifetime of love, leadership and inspiration.
Mary Morton, a mother and former teacher, was honored Sunday surrounded by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
“Keep on reaching until you reach the heights. Don’t stop, don’t give up,” Morton said.
Her family described her as strong, caring and influential in shaping generations of relatives and members of the community.
“Honestly, every day I feel blessed about it,” said grandson Melvin White. “The community loves her a lot and we’re all just blessed to have her.”
Morton also received a proclamation during the celebration that recognized her impact on the community.
"I thank God, and I thank my family,” Morton said. “To do the right thing at all times.”
