Hundreds of people gathered at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers on Saturday for the third annual Break the Silence for Domestic Violence Survivors 5K Walk.
Organizers said they expected about 200 participants to take part in the event, which aims to raise awareness about domestic violence and support survivors.
More than $5,000 was raised through walk registrations alone.
According to the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, more than 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men experience sexual violence, physical violence and/or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Yonkers Community Action Program, which offers services and resources to people impacted by domestic violence.
Organizers say the annual walk is intended to bring the community together, support survivors and help break the stigma surrounding domestic violence.
