Residents in Westchester County say that flooding is a problem they must deal with too often, but officials hope new funding will make a difference.

People around Rye say they were especially hit hard just over a week ago. News 12 reported on several water rescues as that rain came down.

“A couple Sundays ago, the Playland Parkway was closed. I know my neighbor’s basement was flooded," said Anne, who lives in Rye.

News 12 was told that one spot that gets rough is Avon Circle in Rye Brook, right by Westchester Avenue and Port Chester Middle School.

“We’ve had several times where we’ve had to rescue people on Avon Circle, where some of the residential units have been cut off by the water that rushed through that development," said Christopher Bradbury, administrator for the Village of Rye Brook.

Bradbury says a project has been in the works to improve things out there and a new financial boost will help.

“We received $3 million from New York state for a flood/stormwater mitigation project," Bradbury told News 12.

A press release from Gov. Kathy Hochul's office states, "$3 million for the planning, design and construction of subsurface infiltration and streambank stabilization practices to mitigate flooding at Avon Circle-Port Chester Middle School and improve water quality in Blind Brook."
