A Mount Vernon man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for slashing his ex-girlfriend in the face with a kitchen knife, Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced Wednesday.
Ajany Waite was found guilty on multiple counts of assault and burglary in June.
On June 6, 2025, Waite broke into his ex-girlfriend's home after he saw her at a party.
As the woman ran into a bedroom and shut the door, Waite forced it open just enough to slash her on the right side of her face with a large kitchen knife. He then stabbed her in the left shoulder.
Cacace says the woman's son was home at the time and hit Waite with a hammer. He then left the apartment.
The woman received 25 stitches, resulting in permanent scarring and lasting vision-related injuries. She broke her right cheekbone and tore a ligament in her neck.
