A Yorktown Heights woman is sharing a family tradition with the community by giving it a new twist. It has been a love language of hers since she was young.
" I've been baking with family since I [was] a little girl, mostly [with] my mom and my grandparents for holidays, family occasions [and] gifts," said Lauren Singelakis, the owner and operator of the Timeless Cookie Company. "We showed love with cooking and baking... I kept hearing, 'You should really sell your cookies.' Finally, one day I said, 'I'm going to sell my cookies.'"
The idea first came to Singelakis around Christmas 2024. By March, she officially launched the Timeless Cookie Company, sharing some of her most treasured cookie recipes, and honoring those who have made an impact on her life.
"The Timeless Cookie Company [has] either timeless recipes or timeless flavors that we remember from our childhood," she explained." "Most notably is our crumb cake cookie...My dad's mom was the baker of the best crumb cake ever. When she passed, our family handed down the recipe, and everyone made it their own. We turned it into a cookie."
To honor the tradition she created with her family as a child, Singelakis and her partner, Marc Bassi, made sure the Timeless Cookie Company was a family affair.
"My partner helps with everything from marketing ideas [to] recipe development," Singelakis said. "My children help with things like social media, marketing [and] our website. My parents come and help with packaging. So, it's really keeping the entire family involved."
As the shop continues to grow, Singelakis is thankful to share such a special part of her life and expand that tradition with the entire community.
"We sell cookies, but we really sell smiles," she said. "It's a way to really make people happy. No one's ever frowning when you give them a cookie...It's one thing for your family, friends and coworkers to say they love your cookies, but it's really been amazing to see the heartfelt appreciation and feedback from the community."
You can buy cookies from the Timeless Cookie Company online. They ship to anywhere in New York State. You can also have the chance to purchase cookies in person at Peekskill Pride on Saturday. Singelakis and her two nieces, Viviana and Valentina, will also be selling cookies throughout the summer at the Yorktown Lions Summer Concerts.
