New York State Police say a pursuit is what led to a heavy police presence on a Mount Vernon street Tuesday night.
Officials say the chase happened around 9:30 p.m. after troopers spotted a white Tesla from Connecticut that they were looking for.
When troopers attempted to stop the car, police say the driver refused to stop and a pursuit began. The chase ended when officers lost sight of the car.
After canvassing the area, police say they later found the Tesla at the driver's home on South Second Avenue and took him into custody.
Resident Karen Salmon says all of the police activity shocked her.
"This is a nice neighborhood. I don't see no crimes happening. Nothing. This a peaceful neighborhood," Salmon says.
Police say the driver is charged with fleeing an officer and multiple vehicle and traffic violations.
He was released and is due to appear in Mount Vernon City Court at a later date.
